2 Days Buggy Tour in Merzouga: Itinerary

Check out the program below to see what the tour includes. As it is a private tour, you can adapt the route to your interests and level.

Day 1: Erg Chebbi → Black Hamada & Nomads → Khamlia → Sunset at the Desert Camp

Dunes and black desert: we leave our office in Merzouga in the morning, with a small overnight bag packed in the buggy. Your first hours are pure driving fun along the ridges of Erg Chebbi, before you drop down onto the black hamada, a wide plain of dark stones where you can still find fossils of sea creatures from the time this desert was an ocean. Out here you stop with a nomad family in their woven tent for tea, then continue to Khamlia, the village of the Gnawa musicians, for a break and lunch.

Evening at the camp: in the late afternoon you head back into the dunes and arrive at our desert camp as the sun goes down, painting Erg Chebbi in orange and red. After settling into your tent, you sit down to a traditional dinner of soup and tagine, then the camp team brings out the drums for an evening of Berber music around the fire, under one of the darkest and starriest skies in Morocco.

Day 2: Sunrise → Lake & Znigui Dunes → Oasis → Old French-Era Village → Merzouga

A new side of the desert: wake up early, climb the dune behind the camp and watch the first light spread over the Sahara, then enjoy breakfast with fresh bread, eggs and mint tea. Back in the buggy, you drive to the seasonal lake of Dayet Srji, where flamingos can gather after the rains, then on to the Znigui desert, a quieter sea of golden dunes away from the busy routes.

Oasis and history: after a rest in the shade of a palm oasis in the middle of the sand, you drive to an old French-era village, whose crumbling stone houses recall the colonial times and the mines of the region. In the afternoon you make your way back through the dunes to our office in Merzouga, dusty, happy and full of stories.
