Full-Day Camel Trek to a Desert Oasis
Camel Caravan through Erg Chebbi · A Day in the Shade of the Palms · Sunset Ride Back
Overview
Spend a whole day like a desert traveller on our full-day camel trek in Merzouga. In the cool morning, your caravan sets off into the dunes of Erg Chebbi and rides to a small oasis hidden among the dunes, where palm trees and green gardens grow around a source of water.
There you stop for the hottest hours of the day: a long lunch in the shade of the palms, mint tea, a nap on the carpets, a walk in the gardens or some sandboarding on the dunes nearby. In the late afternoon, you ride back to Merzouga as the sun goes down and the dunes turn red and gold.
No rush, no engines: just the desert, the camels and a green paradise in the middle of the sand.

Full-Day Camel Trek to a Desert Oasis: Program
Check out the program below. Times change with the seasons, following the heat and the sunset.
Morning: Camel Caravan across the Dunes → Arrival at the Oasis
Your camel guide meets you at your hotel after breakfast, while the air is still fresh. With your turban tied and water loaded on the camels, the caravan heads into Erg Chebbi. For about two hours you ride up and down the dunes, with short stops to stretch your legs and enjoy the views, until a line of green palms appears between the dunes: the oasis.
In the oasis you are welcomed with mint tea in the shade. Lunch is prepared there, usually a tagine and a fresh salad with bread and fruit, and eaten slowly on the carpets, as it is done in the desert.
Afternoon: Rest in the Oasis → Sunset Camel Ride Back to Merzouga
The hottest hours are for resting: take a nap under the palms, walk through the little gardens, or climb a dune nearby to try sandboarding. When the heat goes down, the camels are ready again and the caravan leaves the oasis. On the way back you stop on a high dune to watch the sunset over the Sahara, then ride the last part in the soft evening light to your hotel in Merzouga.

FAQ
How long do we ride the camel?
About 2 hours in the morning and about 2 hours in the afternoon, with a long rest in the oasis in between.
Is a full day on a camel tiring?
The camels walk slowly and you stop often, so it is comfortable for most people. You can also walk next to your camel for a while if you want to stretch your legs.
What do we eat for lunch?
A Moroccan lunch, usually a tagine, salad, bread and fruit, followed by mint tea. Tell us if you are vegetarian or have any allergies.
Can we sleep in the desert after the trek?
Yes. Instead of riding back, you can continue to our desert camp or our oasis camp and spend the night under the stars.
How much does the full-day camel trek cost?
The price depends on the number of people. Send us a message on WhatsApp at +212 620 628 083 with your group size and date to receive your price.
